Robin B Hood
Official Synopsis:
Martial arts legend Jackie Chan is back with a newborn mix of action and comedy. Jackie plays an acrobatic cat burglar with a knack for getting out of tight spots in hilarious ways. When he gets lured into a fishy plot to kidnap a baby, he'll need to think quickly and move fast to fend off police, mob thugs, and dirty diapers, while protecting the child... and his big payday. Robin-B-Hood is loaded with big laughs and "some of the very best stunt work Chan has done in years" (Todd Brown, Twitch).

Our Take:
Never would I ever have watched Robin B Hood if I didn’t have to. Just look at the DVD cover, it looks ridiculous. And I’ve come to find out after watching it that it is ridiculous, but ridiculous in an awesome way.

It turns out there are two covers for this DVD – a family oriented version (which is sadly the one I got) and an action oriented one that I found a picture of online and does the movie more justice. Sadly, even in the Best Buy Sunday ad, the family oriented cover is shown, I’m sure that will negatively affect sales.

Looking at the family oriented DVD cover you expect to get a lot of corny baby-centric gags ala Baby’s Day Out or some other stupid movie, and while there is a good amount of the cute stuff at play here there’s also a ton of serious action.

In all honesty, I haven’t seen a Jackie Chan movie I liked since Who Am I?, and that was more than a few years ago. Although Robin B Hood is nowhere near as violent or violently themed as most of the Jackie Chan films I love, it has enough clever and well-choreographed action to combat the cuteness of the story and make it worthwhile for everyone.

Dragon Dynasty is doing beyond-amazing work with their DVD’s and this 2-Disc set is no different:

* Commentary by director Benny Chan and Hong Kong cinema expert Bey Logan.
* Crashing The Hood (40 minutes) - A Featurette with star Jackie Chan and action director Jackie Chan.
* The Hand That Mocks The Cradle: An Interview With Director Benny Chan (16 minutes).
* Baby Boomer: An Interview with Co-Star Conroy Chan (14 ½ minutes).
* Playtime For Adults: On The Set Of Robin-B-Hood (22 minutes).
* Robin-B-Hood: An Original Making-Of (22 minutes).

As unexcited as I am about the stupid family oriented DVD art for the DVD, I’m at the complete opposite end of the spectrum with my excitement for the film. Robin B Hood is a fun time and a really good Jackie Chan film. It’s good to be able to enjoy his work again.

Overall Picture:
Movie: A-
DVD: A+
