The Confession

Official Synopsis:

The Confession is a tale of unique redemption and an exploration of good and evil featuring a hit man (Kiefer Sutherland, 24) and a priest (Academy Award® nominee John Hurt, The Elephant Man). On Christmas Eve, the hit man enters a church to confess his sins. Through a series of gripping flashbacks, the Confessor’s journey is revealed, laying out what has brought him to this moment and leading to a climax where his chance at ultimate redemption hangs in the balance. While at first the Confessor seems to be an evil, cold-blooded killing machine and the Priest the ultimate arbiter of good, as time passes, it becomes clear that both men are much more complicated than either could have suspected.

Our Take:

The Confession is a great watch for any Kiefer Sutherland fan. If  you were a fan of 24, the Confessor character is a continuation of Jack Bauer just on the other side of the law. Most of the film is just a one set location yet the dynamic between Sutherland and Hurt is very strong. Both men give solid performances and it’s because of that, that the film is solid. Sure Sutherland seems to channel his inner Bauer, but the role seems to demand that. I did get the twist ending before it was revealed, but it was still very good. The film was cut from multi-episodes, but it transitions quite well into feature length.

Special Features:

  • Feature Film Cut of the Complete Series
  • 4 Exclusive Never Before Seen Episodes
  • 4 Promotional Featurettes with Cast & Crew Interviews
  • 10 Behind the Scenes Episodes

Conclusion:

The Confession is a pretty good thriller with strong performances by the two leads. I have seen every episode of 24 and enjoy Kiefer’s work, but I think even if you aren’t a big fan you can enjoy it. It’s dark, really questions morality and religion and makes you ponder your own decisions in life and your belief system. It is pretty graphic and has some strong language, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Look for it on DVD because it’s definitely….

RECOMMENDED!
