Age of Heroes

Official Synopsis:
Thrust into action, destinedifor greatness

1942. With the fate of the war hanging in the balance, Major Jones (Sean Bean) leads the newly formed 30 Commando on their first highly classified and dangerous mission. Their objective: to parachute into occupied Norway and capture radar technology vital to the Allied cause. Standing in their way is Germany’s ruthless 5th Alpine Division – turning this smash-and-grab operation into a life or death ambush that only the bravest will survive.

Our Take:

It’s always interesting to watch a lesser-known war movie because it’s impossible to tell how authentic and real it will come off on screen. Age of Heroes is one such example of this. I honestly had no idea what to expect in this World War II film. Sean Bean’s character leads a group of young soldiers to take out a German radar tower that is giving them an upper hand in the war. By and large, this movie is pretty standard fare, but that doesn’t mean that certain key scenes in this film don’t pack a punch. I guess what I was most surprised by was how silence in some of these scenes made them all the more dramatic. This was something I enjoyed as a viewer because especially towards the ending battle scenes, you end up feeling how real the stacks are.

Special Features:

  • An Age Of Heroes Documentary
  • Interviews with Cast and Director
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Bloopers
  • Behind-the-Scenes Footage

Conclusion:

Age of Heroes was a pleasant surprise for me as I was not expecting much from it. Sean Bean sends in a decent performance, and it was refreshing to see him to actually be a “good guy”. This movie does a lot with presumptively a small budget, but it never really takes you out of the movie thanks to a decent enough story that never feels like you’ve seen it a thousand times before.

Overall Picture:

Movie: B
