Official Synopsis: The dys-FUN-ction continues with the less-than-loveable Bundys! Peggy switches seats with Al at a basketball game, and ends up being chosen for the $10,000 free throw contest. Kelly and Bud buy a car to share, and then are forced to double dare. Everyone thinks Bud has flipped out when they overhear him speaking with his "cool" alter-ego. Due to a hospital mix-up, Al is accidentally circumcised after he's injured playing baseball. Al could get a brand new car as his old Dodge nears 999,999 miles, but can he hold out? Al (Ed O'Neill), Peggy (Katey Sagal), Kelly (Christina Applegate) and Bud (David Faustino) return for 26 more episodes of crass-kicking fun and laughter in Married... With Children: The Complete Eighth Season.
Our Take: I’ve reviewed at least five seasons of this show now, and I’ve really run out of things to say. If you don’t know what to expect from the Bundys after eight years, you’re probably one of them. Married With Children: The Complete Eighth Season serves as a testament to proving that television shows can live long past their expiration date, as long as enough people still watch them. Keep the formula the same, change almost nothing, serve up the same jokes season after season after season, and you’ve apparently got the makings of a show that could run for a decade, which Married With Children did.
As usual, there are no real extra features on this DVD set, except for a few advertisements for other Sony TV-on-DVD releases couched in the form of “minisodes.” They are:
* Silver Spoons - "A Family Affair" * V.I.P. - "Loh-Down Dirty Shame"
Good for a few laughs here and there, Married With Children: The Complete Eighth Season is the very definition of an average show that has run its course. Die-hard fans will likely want to continue their collections, but I can’t help but wonder if it isn’t time for a “Bundys Greatest Hits” DVD. Usually I only support full season collections, but in this case, I think a disc or two’s worth of Married With Children would be the perfect amount.
