Our Take:
The fourth season of Sliders saw the original cast reduced to exactly half of its original number. By this time, both John Rhys-Davies’ Professor Arturo and Sabrina Lloyd’s Wade Wells had left the show. They were ably replaced by Kari Wuhrer and Charlie O’Connell (Jerry’s real life brother), but how is it that they couldn’t figure out a way to get rid of Rembrandt “The Crying Man” Brown in four years time? Easily the weakest character on the show, I think Cleavant Derricks is one of the things that kept me from ever embracing this show to the fullest extent.

Overall, though, Sliders is a good, fun chunk of sci-fi cheese. It’s easy to survive cast changes when you’re show isn’t all that spectacular to begin with. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking on Sliders, I just think you have to accept it for low-budget sci-fi, and not, say Battlestar Galactica.

We did have some noteworthy happenings in Season Four, however. Jerry O’Connell directed an episode this season, and guest stars include sci-fi notables Armin Shimerman, Connor Trineer, Adrienne Barbeau, Shane West, Meg Foster, Roy Dotrice, Malcolm Jamal-Warner, and Kristanna Loken.

There are no extra features on Sliders: The Fourth Season.

Sliders is a fun show that had a great premise and only limited capabilities to live up to its potential with. I like that the later seasons started to develop a mythology with the Kromaggs, and Season Four, while hit or miss like the show always was, does have some standout episodes. Sliders fans will lament the lack of extras, but should be happy to get this season on DVD after an extremely long wait.
