Diamond Dogs

Official Synopsis:
Soldier. Fighter. Seeker. Legend. The expedition needed a leader. It got a warrior. Action superstar Dolph Lundgren (Missionary Man) propels this hard-hitting adventure as a guide hired to lead a band of treasure hunters to locate a priceless Buddhist artifact. Xander Ronson (Lundgren), an ex-Special Forces officer, agrees to lead an obsessed fortune hunter and his men on a dangerous quest for a legendary relic, the Tangka Tapestry. But great dangers await from a gang of ruthless Russian mercenaries bent on stealing the fabled treasure and also from a deadly curse said to protect the incredibly valuable relic from tomb raiders.

Our Take:
The last Dolph Lundgren movie I had to watch, Missionary Man, was bad. So, as anyone could guess, I was less than enthused when I received another Lundgren movie to review, especially one that was basically shot back to back with the former. But, as the 3-D holographic DVD cover would suggest, Diamond Dogs is a much better film than Missionary Man.

First of all, Lundgren looks infinitesimally cooler with a shaved head than he does with his weird looking hair, so right away I knew this movie was stepping in the right direction. Basically what we have here is set-ups to two different movies we have previously seen. Diamond Dogs starts off with some Bloodsport-esque fighting and it sticks with that for the first third of the movie. Then, in order to pay his debts off, Lundgren gets swept up into the world of National Treasure as he leads a group to find a treasure (while another, more evil group wants Lundgren to be leading them.)

There is only a single special feature included on the disc and that is your run-of-the-mill The Making Of Diamond Dogs, which runs for about 3 minutes.

I probably would have given Diamond Dogs a little bit of a higher rating if the acting hadn’t of been some of the worst the world of filmmaking has to offer. It’s really saying something when Dolph Lundgren is turning in the best performance in a movie.
