Our Take:
Going into In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, I didn’t want to just write about how awful of a director Uwe Boll is. There are plenty (millions?) of reviews out there like that. But then you watch the movie he’s made and you realize that he brings it on himself. He makes it very hard to not dislike him and he makes it very hard for us reviewers to actually talk seriously about the movie in question.

Jason Statham, Ron Perlman, Leelee Sobieski, Claire Forlani, Kristanna Loken, Matthew Lillard, Ray Liotta, and Burt Reynolds. Those are some pretty big names that star (and I use the word star lightly) in In The Name Of The King. That’s a lot of recognizable people – many of whom I like. Isn’t it a shame that we have to watch them degrade themselves like this? I mean, what could their motivation be for appearing in a film this bad?

The script at work here is just awful. I would venture so far as to say that not a single person attached to the making of this movie read the entire script. They read what they needed to for their character, and maybe a few other “highlights” and called it a day. The story is nothing more than a basic revenge tale but it takes 2 hours of the worst of the worst dialogue to get us there. Does anyone really want to listen to something that makes no sense and sounds insipid for two hours?

Special features on the DVD include:

* Behind The Scenes Featurette (4 minutes) – Standard stuff here.

* Deleted & Extended Scenes (9 minutes) – Three extra scenes. Yay.

I guess the only good thing I can bring myself to say about In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale is that it isn’t Boll’s worst movie. I haven’t seen many of his more recent movies, nor will I ever do so willingly, but out of some of the ones I have seen (Sanctimony, House Of The Dead) I guess this is more in the watchable category of Boll movies. The action is presented in a clear enough manner, so if you’re someone who can watch a crappy movie purely for a fight sequence, maybe you won’t have as bad a time watching this as I did.
