Official Synopsis:
Inspired by the beloved Reader's Digest story, join Officer MacKenzie (Dean Cain) and his junior sleuth daughter, Julia, to prove their heroic dog's innocence in Ace Of Hearts. Discover that with love and determination, anything is possible! Officer Dan Harding (Cain) and his trusty canine partner, Ace are the best duo on the police force. But unfortunately, all of that hard police work leaves little time for Dan’s family, including his 13-year-old daughter Julia (Britt McKillip). When Ace is accused of a crime he didn’t commit, it’s Julia who sets out to prove Ace’s innocence. Soon Julia’s keen sleuthing skills – combined with her unending faith and will to save Ace – reconnects her family when they need it the most.
Our Take:
Knowing that Ace of Hearts is inspired by a true story makes it hard to knock it. Dean Cain stars as Daniel Harding, a police officer in the K-9 unit, along with his four legged friend, Ace, a German Sheppard. Ace is accused of hurting a suspect, and its up to Harding’s daughter to clear Ace’s name. Ace of Hearts is a family friendly entry into a long line of “A Cop and his Dog” genre films (Turner & Hooch, K-9 Cop, etc) and it does its job decently enough. Sort of a subgenre of the buddy cop film, the cop-dog movie teams a cop with a dog, but uses the elements of an unlikely partnership to create comedic hijinks.
There are no special features on Ace of Hearts, which may come as a disappointment to the families and children that are the target audience for this DVD release.
Bottom Line: Ace of Hearts is a squeaky clean family friendly flick that everyone can enjoy together.
