Our Take: I'm trying to imagine how the marketing meeting behind The Best of Chappelle’s Show went down. I imagine it was something like this:
Executive 1: Hey, our star went a little nuts and walked off the most successful project we've ever had.
Executive 2: Hmmm... what are we going to do?
Executive 1: I don’t know, but we need to find some way to make some more money off our golden cash cow!
Executive 2: How about a greatest hits collection?
Executive 1: Ummm, well, he only had three seasons, and only two of those were complete, finished seasons.
Executive 2: That's ok, we'll throw in some bonus material.
Executive 1: We don't really have any left. We used it all on the previous releases.
Executive 2: Then we'll just recycle some of it.
Executive 1: Hm. I guess that could work.
Executive 2: Yeah, and we'll slap some new cover art on it. Maybe add a shiny sticker on it or something!
Executive 1: Yes!
Executive 2: Yes!
Special features on The Best of Chappelle's Show include:
* Bloopers (12 minutes). * Bonus Episode (18 minutes). * Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories (28 minutes) - Two segments of THS.
So that's pretty much all you need to know. If you're one of the seven Dave Chappelle fans who doesn't already own the three seasons of the show on DVD, then this actually isn’t a terrible DVD. I guess for casual Chappelle fans it's worthwhile, but for the most part, it just screams of trying to wring a few last bucks out of a massive success gone away.
