Official Synopsis: Bloodrayne is back! This time, the sexy heroine (Natassia Malthe) battles a gang of merciless vampire cowboys led by Billy the Kid (Zack Ward). Scene after scene, her death defying stunts with knives and sling-blades blaze a trail of mayhem for her villains. Directed by Uwe Boll.
Our Take: It's funny to see a movie directed by Uwe Boll proudly proclaim "Director's Cut!" across the top of the DVD box as if that's a good thing. Let's face it: the man is known as probably the worst director since Ed Wood. Having staked out a claim solely in the video games-into-movies realm, Boll is detested by critics yet also despised by moviegoers. That's a hard one-two punch to achieve and still remain working. I guess he comes cheap.
After the first Bloodrayne movie miraculously attracted some actual talent (Michael Madsen? Ben Kingsley?!?) yet still become universally loathed, Bloodrayne 2: Deliverance skips the big name stars, finds a new, hotter Bloodrayne in Natassia Malthe, and relocates to the Old West to take on a vampire Billy the Kid. The resulting film is, well, not as awful as you'd think. I actually can't place too much of the blame at Boll's feet for this film; it's actually not flawed in it's direction so much as it is just dull. There's a little bit of fun vampire action, but really it's just a five-page story treatment stretched out into a 90-minute movie.
Extra features on this two-disc set actually include a few cool goodies, such as a digital comic book and an entire video game (for PC) on a separate disc.
* Digital Comic Book. * Extended Scenes. * Deleted Scenes. * Director's Commentary - Hear from the "master" himself. * Interview with Director and Cast. * The Complete Bloodrayne PC Videogame on DVD.
Normally I would say that this movie is for fans of the original only, but I don't know if there are any of those. With the all new cast, locale and story, though, Bloodrayne 2: Deliverance stands on its own from the first one and is actually one of Uwe Boll's better films. Not that that's saying a whole lot.
Overall Picture: Movie: D+ DVD: B+
