National Lampoon's Dorm Daze 2
Official Synopsis:
This time the turf hits the surf as the students of Billingsley U ditch campus life for fun, sun and high times on the high seas. When the good ship Surveyor leaves port for romantic Mexico, rules, inhibitions and school clothes are quickly cast off as the salty air and the skimpy swim wear get everyone in the mood to mate. All aboard for laughs as these college hotties put the motion in the ocean in this wet 'n' wild romantic comedy.

Our Take:
The first Dorm Daze was a very mildly amusing, sophomoric take-off on the American Pie movies. The second movie is pretty much the exact same thing, except this time around it's been crossbred with The Love Boat.

These movies have the potential to be memorable, funny flicks, but they suffer from a few major flaws. First and foremost, there are WAY too many characters. American Pie and its sequels had a large ensemble cast, but the characters were developed in those films. In Dorm Daze 2, the characters are such paper-thin cliches, you're hard pressed to remember even one of their names by the end of the movie. The other major flaw is that the movie lacks in any originality whatsoever. I doubt there's a single plot (and I use the term loosely) device in this flick that hasn't been seen somewhere else before.

On the other hand, the movie is also what I call a car-wreck film. It's pretty bad, but for some reason, you just can't divert your eyes. Maybe it's the unrated promise of scantily clad (or not-at-all clad) beautiful women (including porn star Jasmine St. Claire in a fairly large role), but the film is just amusing enough to keep your interest. Is the film good in any way? No. But was I bored at any time? Also no. Car-wreck film.

The DVD comes with a few extra features, one of which in particular should please readers of FHM and Maxim magazines.

* Commentary - Co-directors Scott and David Hillenbrand, producer Brian Farber, and editor Dave O'Brien talk about the film.
* Bloopers & Outtakes (7 minutes) - A pretty funny collection of bloopers.
* Deleted Scenes - A whopping 19 scenes cut from the film, with optional commentary by the above.
* Behind The Scenes With Vida Guerra (10 minutes) - Watch the Dorm Daze 2 promo photo shoot and see an interview with the FHM cover girl, as well as a few other beauties from the film. Watching the photo shoot with these girls? Possibly the best special feature ever.

My guess is that if you're like any of the characters in this film (19 years old, drunk most of the time, sex-crazed), you might enjoy this film. Otherwise, it’s just another car wreck.
