Our Take:
What happens when an ex-heroin addict becomes a vampire? You get The Thirst, a film by Raymond Stella. The movie is the story of two star-crossed lovers, torn apart by the unfair hand of fate and then brought back together by the simple act of drinking the blood of mortal man.

As far as vampire movies go, this one is worth watching. Taking a different look at how vampire covens operate and employing a cast of characters that are interesting, intriguing and irritating, The Thirst makes for an enjoyable watch. Although at times the audience may be a little disappointed with how characters react to certain situations and how the plot seems to jump around with little or no reason, the end result is a highly enjoyable vampire flick that leaves you wondering what you might do in this situation. Would you give up your mortal existence in turn for immortality and a constant hunger that leads to murder? The film’s main characters are fleshed out in more depth than one would expect from a direct-to-DVD film, and actually manage to surprise viewers with some of their quirks.

The biggest and best scenes occur after Max has been turned. Although the special effects are cheesy in some instances, they lend themselves to the film and keep the movie fun and entertaining.

The disc’s special features include:

* Commentary - Features the usual information given by the director and actors concerning the shooting of the film and reasons for having certain scenes as opposed to others.
* Deleted Scenes – These are more akin to extended scenes, as each one of them is nothing more than five to six extra minutes of each scene. However, these scenes, when watched after the movie, do lend more credit to certain instances and enhance the same scenes.
* Photo Gallery - The photo gallery is extremely enjoyable. It shows each of the major characters in full costume posing in stills. These still photos sometimes show individual characters and other times show two, three or even six people in one pose. Very fun to watch.
* DVD Script - The movie, word for word in text form. Not bad if you are confused about what was said when. Can be fun, if you and your friends feel like acting out certain scenes.

Overall, The Thirst is as an enjoyable vampire film, with only a few minor problems. The characters are well developed and the plot line is clear enough that viewers can follow it with little or no problem. The special effects are at times cheesy, but in a sense, that adds to the overall joy of the movie. The violence and gore can be extreme, but for the scenes in which they occur, they fit perfectly into the world of The Thirst.
