Official Synopsis: Rejoin Sci-Fi's most action-packed TV series as Battlestar Galactica 2.5 flies on to DVD in Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. Featuring an extended version of the cliffhanger episode Pegasus, this continuation of the epic second season follows the ongoing battle of President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos) in their heart-pounding crusade to save humanity from the deadly robot Cylons. Packed with special features, including deleted scenes, podcasts and Producer David Eick's video blog, Battlestar Galactica 2.5 is an explosive thrill-ride that's not to be missed!
Our Take: I'm sure that my next comment won't go over well with the Battlestar Galactica faithful, but I really didn't like the miniseries that kicked off the show's current incarnation. Frankly, I just thought it was really boring. Because of that, I skipped out on the regular series, because I just didn't expect it to do much for me.
Fast-forward to two years later, and it seems I'm the only guy on the planet not watching this show. After much kicking-of-myself, I finally broke down and picked up the first two DVD sets. Do I really need to explain what happened? I doubt it. Let's just say that I am now among the converts who recognize Battlestar Galactica as the amazing, powerful show that it is.
The Season 2.5 collection is the second half of the second season, and while I prefer my television collections in full-season sets, I can understand why the show was packaged in two parts, what with the airing schedule and mid-season hiatuses that Sci-Fi Channel employs. Still, this set kicks off with a bang, with the extended version of the cliffhanger episode Pegasus, and it never really lets up all the way into that shocking season finale. I don't know anybody who isn't completely salivating while waiting for season three to hit the airwaves. If you've been waiting for this collection to get caught up, trust me, you will NOT be disappointed!
As with the previous DVD collections, this one comes with a handful of cool bonus features. Here's what comes in the set:
* Podcast Commentaries - Commentary tracks (that were originally available as podcasts) for each episode by producer Ronald D. Moore. * Deleted Scenes - Eight episodes feature numerous deleted scenes. * David Eick's Video Blogs (27 minutes) - Seven short video blogs/featurettes that feature on-set footage and interviews with numerous show personnel. * R&D Logos (2 minutes) - The various animated end card production credit logo screens from the first two seasons.
Battlestar Galactica is one of the best science fiction shows on television, and that's because the science fiction isn't really the driving force of the show. This is a show about characters, politics, and relationships that just happens to be in a sci-fi setting. And shows like that are always the best the genre has to offer. Just like Battlestar Galactica is.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
