Official Synopsis: Consider them the Beavis and Butt-Head of the new millennium. In this "show within a show," Chico and Guapo tear TV a new one with their hilarious comments and sarcastic critiques of your favorite shows, including MTV staples like Newlyweds and Laguna Beach. Unrated 2 disc DVD set includes all eight irreverent and hilarious episodes from season one.
Our Take: If you took Beavis and Butthead, made them ethnic, amped them up on speed, and took away everything that made them funny, you'd have The Adventures of Chico and Guapo. Seriously, this show must be geared for a COMPLETELY different demographic than the one I'm in, because there is just nothing funny about it. I always look for the positives in any movie or TV show, but about the best thing I can say about Chico and Guapo is that I only WANTED to claw my eyes out while I was watching it, I didn't actually do it.
So, the good news. As always, MTV and Paramount have created a pretty cool DVD collection, even if it is for a terrible show.
* The Orlando Jones Show Shorts (27 minutes) - The 16 original short cartoons that spawned Chico and Guapo. * Animated Storyboards - Watch storyboards for deleted shorts (21 minutes) and aired shorts (16 minutes). * The Gift Director's Cut (2 1/2 minutes) - Another short cartoon. It's the director's cut. Yay. * Orlando Jones on TRL (3 minutes) - A clip from Jones's appearance on the MTV show. * Artwork - An in-depth art gallery that includes early sketches, character designs, and caricatures.
I don't know what's going on at MTV these days. Between The Andy Milonakis Show and The Adventures of Chico and Guapo, they've apparently decided that the lowest common denominator is a bit too highbrow for them. For die-hard fans only.
Overall Picture: Show: D- DVD: B+
