Conviction: The Complete Series
Official Synopsis:
In the cutthroat New York judicial system, if you’re intelligent, ambitious and new, there’s only one way to get things done – with Conviction. Get ready for all 13 gripping episodes of Conviction: The Complete Series from award-winning creator Dick Wolf (Law & Order). When five young assistant district attorneys enter the world of public justice, they struggle to make sense of their challenging caseloads and equally provocative personal lives. Under the leadership of bureau chief Alex Cabot (Stephanie March, Law & Order: SVU), these rookie prosecutors are about to get a crash course in love, life and the law. Also starring Eric Balfour, J. August Richards, Anson Mount, Jordan Bridges, Julianne Nicholson and Milena Govich.

Our Take:
From the brilliant mind of Dick Wolf (who brought us Law & Order), comes Conviction: The Complete Series. While it isn’t labeled under the Law & Order moniker, it’s sort of like a distant cousin, taking place in the same continuity as the other series.

Conviction, like the latest Law & Order entry, Trial by Jury, only lasted 13 episodes, and to me it’s apparent why. It strives to be a hip show, targeting the younger generation; it’s got lots of sex and the characters use the young person lingo. However, none of the characters are really that compelling and the young jet-setting rookie lawyer bit gets old after a while.

Included with this DVD are seven character profiles which total about sixteen minutes running time. Each profile features interviews with the actors speaking about their characters and the show.

This latest entry into the whole procedural lawyer drama genre isn’t treading any new ground. Unless you were a fan of the show during its brief run or are a die-hard fan of the Law & Order series, this show is guilty as charged. Sentence: Pass.
