Official Synopsis: Villains beware! Caped crime fighter Darkwing Duck is on the job. With his loyal sidekick, Launchpad, and a whole bunch of zany high-tech gadgets, Darkwing does his best to keep the city of St. Canard safe -- and that's the easy part of his day! Darkwing must juggle the responsibilities of being a superhero and being a dad to nine-year-old Gosalyn. With three discs full of adventure and laughs, Darkwing Duck is a feather-raising good time.
Our Take: For whatever reason, I never really watched Darkwing Duck a lot when I was younger. I can't remember why I never really embraced it, but I do seem to recall that I was never that impressed by it during its original run.
But since Disney is going back and releasing some of its popular after-school cartoons (Duck Tales, TaleSpin, etc.) and I've been revisiting them all, I thought maybe I'd fall in love with the world of Darkwing Duck. After all, I love Duck Tales, I love superheroes, how could I go wrong?
But somehow, this cartoon still just does not work for me. It's not a bad cartoon by any means, I just cannot get into it. Superheroes aside; for whatever reason, I just find myself bored silly watching it. Of course, I'm an adult now, but I had hoped I'd be able to embrace it. The good news is that I think kids will still enjoy it. It has enough action and laughs at least to keep them interested for a little while. At least, I think so. I wasn't all that interested when I was a kid.
Volume 1 includes 26 episodes over three discs, but no extra features. Still, that's a pretty hefty collection in terms of quantity of shows, so fans should be happy to have the beaked crusader returning to their homes.
